I want to extend the subscription economy. Live in Arizona? Subscribe to wipers. Live near the poles? Lights only needed half the year. Do you want brakes, or really good brakes?!
Yes. I have an app for my Mazda, it gives all sorts of common language explanations to issues like tire pressure, doors, fuel etc. This is better, but like most things, after 3 years I have to subscribe to the app. Right back to capitalism.
It’s also about how unintuitive and unclear the systems are designed. Quick search found that in general the battery light comes on when there is a problem with the charging system including the alternator and related cables. A low battery may not trigger a battery light as everything is technically working. Yet it may trigger a check engine light as a subsystem is impacted by low voltage.
This is the problem, how do you explain this? And even if you could, how would an end user ever get this far? At the end it’s more about greedy dealers. Like 90% of the time, blame capitalism.
Vancouver/Canada - just finished the first step in our support redesign, we completed the research and presented the service strategy. I have a feeling the hard work starts now. I'm off to Dreamforce next week to just be a sponge. Also hiring Managers in Vancouver and New York... and... and...
I don’t know where to go with this. On the surface making sure the use of AI is disclosed isn’t a bad thing. The rest is insular politics that has the same racial/nationalist overtones that are becoming more common. It’s more of a dog whistle than anything.
Love one of their rationalizations - to paraphrase - “we had over 900 candidates and couldn’t speak to them all, but we really wanted to, so we threw AI at it!”
1.
Lazy!!!
2.
So you wasted 900+ people’s time because of #1.
3.
You found that the candidates the AI selected were different than what you would have with resume review. That might not be the boon you think it is.
My take, sign a contract (esig), then use something like email transfer for payment. Just make sure you understand the terms. You can always start a consulting company and use email as your “address”. At some point you do have to trust.
One note, if you’re a freelancer, there’s little risk, beyond them stealing your identity. However, often this is done to gain competitive information. The research is conducted on behalf of a company trying to understand what their competitors do and glean some otherwise unavailable info.
Tread carefully.
