I built a tool to find the best annotation colors for product screenshots
Hey fine ElevateCX folks! ๐ค I hacked together a nifty little tool this weekend to answer a question we get a lot around the office: What's actually the best annotation color (arrows, boxes, and callouts) for product screenshots in your help articles ? Many of the companies we work with default to one of their brand colors, which often isn't the best choice tbh ๐ฌ An annotation has one job: To be seen first, and to be recognized as something added on top of the screenshot, NOT part of the product UI. Turns out there's some interesting visual search research behind this, so I built a scoring model that looks at five things: Color distance, color range, color naming, contrast, and color-blind safety. Upload 3โ5 clean screenshots of your product, and it'll suggest and rank annotation colors on a 0โ100 scale. You can also test your existing brand colors to see how well they perform. Everything runs locally in your browser. No screenshots are uploaded anywhere. launchbrightly.com/tools/annotation-color-finder Would love some feedback, as Josh Peacock and me are actually using this algorithm with our screenshot automation customers at LaunchBrightly, and I'm keen to tune it further. And sound ever smart.. Hmm. ๐ผ Anywho. Free tool. All in the browser, and you can copy the whole thing and run it locally if you want to..
