When you outsource the thinking, you outsource the learning. You become a conduit for a mechanical bird regurgitating it's hunt directly into your baby-bird mouth. You don’t know your code. You’re babysitting it.

it’s a frustrating watching quickly AI dismantle the structure our early education tried really hard to build for us? all of that silent sustained reading time, all of those writing assignments, to teach us how to think and write. an approach that’s degraded year after year just, dropkicked out of the picture bc, well, the bot can do it for me.

I spent a lot of time hammering reading as punk resistance to my kid and thus far that has mostly inoculated her. But she tells me every day about kids in English class openly using chat GPT and then just copying/pasting into Google docs

She would charge me like $5 or $10 per page and then, I don't know, buy weed with the money. It was a good system for everyone. AI coming in here and fucking up our youth.
I'm not a fan of schooling, in general. There are a lot of things that I think are terrible about how our education system works. But I'm old and I liked the ways in which it was broken when I was in school.
