yea, i’ve always wondered how long and what it would take for the eng bubble to bust
The author makes some very interesting points, including suggesting that the US outsourced the least desirable jobs once the union-demanded fair pay/environment made those jobs more pricey here than in other countries where lower wages and less healthy environments are the norm, and that THOSE are the jobs that the tariffs are trying to bring back to the US.
It done busted
so... if that works, then wouldn't a subsequent re-establishment of lower tariff free trade just result in re-outsourcing of those jobs?
We really got ourselves into an interesting position as workers - workers in reality, but managerial class in practice. Now that it's so easy to hire outside the US where COL is low and protections are (were) less, we don't have much power.
yup.
they have said out loud that they want to outsource engineers bc non american engineers are more productive and educated
and cheaper
I'm sure that Harbor Freight sells more tools (at least by quantity) than Snap-on.
The article also makes the point that onshoring jobs is actually good, since supply chains are not always reliable. Maybe it's actually time to band together as humans (not Americans or Peruvians or what have you) and demand to be treated like humans
how many people are side hustling because they actually need more income vs for funsies
My buddy who studied Econ taught me "The market will pay what the market will bear." Seems true of every market I can think of, but since markets are emotional, "what the market will bear" often changes.
