Did you know that it only takes one surgery to take 20 pieces of a humerus arm bone and put it back into one piece? Did you also know that it feels absolutely bizarre to have a full-arm nerve block so that you can see your fingers moving gripping things, but you can't actually feel those fingers gripping things? Wild! Oh! And did you know that if you jump out of the back of your truck onto the driveway, just like you’ve done for many years, but land on your elbow instead of on your feet, that just the end of your humerus can transform into as many as 20 separate pieces? I didn’t know any of that before. But I do now...
Oh no I am so sorry! Sending you all healing vibes
There must be something in the water because I fell last month, snapped/slightly crushed my upper humorous just under the ball of my shoulder, and discovered a benign tumor had hollowed out the top half of my humerus 😅
Been there :( And when that pain blocker wears off, it's like a freaking switch - all in!!! Mine wore off during nurse shift switch.
I don't have any broken bone stories to share in sympathy, but I'm sorry. This sounds brutal.
Miles Goldstein They said that my nerve block should last 48 to 72 hours. So I'm not really sure what to expect because my fingers are still numb. But I think tomorrow is going to be a righteous day.
There has been plenty of pain already even with that nerve block. So I expect tomorrow to be fully awesome. I am very grateful for my wife who is taking good care of me.
Best advice: stay ahead of the pain meds. If they wear off before you take the next dose you will "sorely" regret it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
For what it’s worth, I also found ice to be way, waaaay more effective at pain reduction than the pain meds were (which is wild, because before now I’ve hated icing injuries)
